What is it?
Doctors occasionally need to know the levels of various gases present in your lungs as part of your on-going care. The Exhaled Carbon Monoxide Test is designed to measure the amount of carbon monoxide that is present in your lungs.
What is involved?
The test involves taking a full breath in to full, followed by holding your breath for 10 seconds. The Physiologist will then ask you to blow all the air out into the test device without stopping. Within 30 seconds the Physiologist will be able to read the levels of carbon monoxide that you blew out.
What happens after the test?
The results of the test will be reviewed by your consultant as part of your on-going care.
