Dr Roberts trained at the University of Cambridge and was also a part of the University’s MB PhD programme, working at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology leading to the award of a PhD in 2002.  Following post-graduate training in medicine at the Hammersmith and Whittington Hospitals in London, he completed higher specialist training in Neurology in the East of England, working at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London.

Dr Roberts has continued to combine clinical medicine with laboratory research based at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research and in 2011 was awarded a Wellcome-Beit Prize and Intermediate Clinical Fellowship to investigate the common inherited peripheral neuropathy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
