Educated in the Medical Sciences at Christ’s College in Cambridge and trained in Clinical Medicine at Guy’s Hospital London and with postgraduate medical experience at Guy’s, St Thomas’ and the Middlesex Hospitals and the National Hospital for Neurology in London, I have been a Consultant Neurologist (on the GMC Specialist Register) at Addenbrooke’s since 1986.

My practice, both inpatient and outpatient is principally in general neurology including experience with all common and most uncommon neurological disorders. In addition I am the Director of the Addenbrooke’s Motor Neuron Disease Care & Research Centre and run a fortnightly Motor Neuron Disease clinic and a monthly peripheral nerve disease Clinic at Addenbrooke’s. I also run satellite neurology clinics in Ipswich hospital and various Cambridgeshire General Practice Surgeries. From 2003-2011 I was Clinical Director for Neurology at Addenbrooke’s.

I have an interest in Clinical teaching and was Clinical Dean of the University of Cambridge 1996-2003 and still devote considerable time to clinical teaching both undergraduate and Postgraduate.

I live in Cambridge and with my wife, a Child Therapist, have three grown children all of whom work in Medicine or Clinical Psychology elsewhere in the UK. In addition I have (so far) three grandchildren.
