Functional movement disorders

Consultant neurologist Dr Wendy Phillips runs a regular clinic for patients with functional movement disorders, which cause symptoms such as weakness, numbness and fatigue.

These disorders are caused by problems in the nervous system which stop the brain from sending messages to the body properly.

Functional movement disorders can have similar symptoms to a range of other neurological disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease and MS, so it is important to get a diagnosis from a specialist so that any other conditions can be ruled out.

At the clinic held at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, our team will carry out a full assessment of your condition before developing a tailored treatment plan. This plan will vary for each individual dependent on their symptoms, and could include medication and physiotherapy.
