Joining a surgical ward will place you in a varied and exciting area, and one where we are passionate about your development. We want all our staff to achieve their full potential and deliver outstanding care.

As a surgical nurse, you could find yourself working in one of a range of wards, which are spread across our divisions. The wards include:

  • colorectal
  • ears, nose and throat
  • gastro-intestinal surgery
  • gynaecology
  • hepato-biliary
  • ​neurosurgical 
  • ophthalmology
  • plastic and reconstructive
  • transplant
  • urology
  • vascular

Across all these areas, you’ll find clinical challenges, but also a great deal of satisfaction, working closely with patients to help them recover.

As a new member of staff, we’ll ensure that you are well supported, whether you’re newly qualified or more experienced. As soon as you join, you’ll be assigned a mentor and we’ll encourage you to work with specialist team eg pain, nutrition and outreach, to broaden your experience. You’ll also be supported by practice development and specialist nurses and we have links to local universities to support your future development.
