I was elected as Staff Governor in July 2019. I have been a volunteer in Oncology since November 2015, providing information and support for patients and their families.
In that time, I have learnt a lot about the importance of good communication between patients and staff, the increasing demand from patients and the additional pressure this puts on frontline staff.
For much of my working life I have been an employee in state owned organisations that provide essential public services, firstly water and more recently rail. I am now a self-employed consultant and currently work 2 days a week helping the rail industry justify requests to government and the regulator for sufficient funding.
I am a strong supporter of the NHS and am enjoying the challenge of being a Governor and supporting the Trust deliver such vital services to the local community. I am actively engaged in the role through various Board committees and working groups and in being accessible to staff to hear their views and contribute to the efficient and caring operation of the hospital.
I enjoy playing hockey, golf and tennis. I live locally and am married with one son.
