Bill was elected as Staff Governor in July 2019. He has been a volunteer in Oncology since November 2015, providing information and support for patients and their families.
In that time, Bill has learnt a lot about the importance of good communication between patients and staff, the increasing demand from patients and the additional pressure this puts on frontline staff.
For much of his working life Bill has been an employee in state owned organisations that provide essential public services, firstly water and more recently rail. He is now a self-employed consultant and currently works 2 days a week in London where he helps the rail industry justify requests to government and the regulator for sufficient funding.
Bill is a strong supporter of the NHS and looks forward to the new challenge of being a Governor and supporting the Trust deliver such vital services to the local community. He is keen to commit time to the role and in being accessible to all staff in order to hear their views and contribute to the efficient and caring operation of the hospital.
Bill enjoys playing hockey, golf and tennis. He lives locally and is married with one son.
