The department provides a comprehensive nutrition support service to our hospital and the community. Dr Jeremy Woodward leads this team, who were the first in the UK to introduce a ‘Feeding Issues Multidisciplinary Team’ (FIMDT) meeting for artificial nutrition and end of life issues.
PEG / gastrostomy and jejunostomy tubes are placed endoscopically in selected patients with exceptionally low complication rates, while patients with intestinal failure, including those undergoing intestinal transplantation, are supported by IV nutrition in hospital and at home. The team has recently been recognised by awards from the Nursing Times and East of England NHS healthcare.
Close liaison with dietetics has led to a national reputation for the nutritional management of irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease and coeliac disease.
