Dr Ross Russell trained at Cambridge University before moving to London. His early paediatric posts included time at Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Royal Brompton, St George's Hospital and Kings before he moved to Cambridge in 1992 as a consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care.

He also trained in Respiratory Medicine, and currently has a predominately respiratory practice, looking after the regional service for the East of England, with 200 children with Cystic Fibrosis, a sleep service, care of neuromuscular children and complex asthma. He is an active member of the European Respiratory Society, the British Paediatric Respiratory Group and the European Academy of Paediatrics.

Since 2000 he has also been Director of Studies in Medicine at Peterhouse, where he supervises in Physiology, and he is the sole medical trustee of the Evelyn Trust, a Cambridge charity that supports medical research and social issues in the region.
