Patient information (JVF ICU)

The intensive care unit offers excellent care for those patients who are considered to be very unwell and require one-to-one care and specialist treatment options.

Most patients do not remember their stay on the ICU unit due to sedation or other forms of medication. Patients who are discharged from the unit sometimes have problems adapting to other wards and how they are run.

We have a specialist team of experienced Intensive Care nurses whose job role is to follow patients as they are discharged to other wards in the hospital and help patients try to come to terms with and understand their ICU experience.

Every patient that is discharged from the unit is invited back to attend a follow-up clinic appointment with the follow-up team. During the appointment, the patient can discuss their time on the unit and discuss any issues they may have. There is also the opportunity to look round the unit if the patient feels this will help.

Patients are typically invited back around 2-3 months after they have been discharged, however, our Clinical Nurse Specialists can be contacted at any time.
