Kerry Symonds
Healthcare assistant

Neurosciences is a really interesting department to work in, especially since there’s always something new to learn.

The patients in our department can be admitted with some of the most serious conditions you’re likely to see, and that makes my job challenging, but incredibly rewarding.

I started as an HCA at Addenbrooke’s in 2007 and since then have earned two NVQ qualifications in health and social care. Now that I’m a ‘level 3’ there’s a lot of added responsibility, making my role quite similar to that of the nurse I work with.

If you’re a kind, caring sort of person looking to make a real difference to people’s lives, then a position as an HCA is a great job to do.
