Bowel Cancer Screening

Addenbrooke's services

The Cambridge Bowel Cancer Screening Centre commenced a screening programme as part of the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme for the populations of South Cambridgeshire and West Suffolk from October 2007 and extended to cover Harlow and Uttlesford populations in October 2008.

Bowel cancer screening aims to detect bowel cancer at an early stage when treatment is more likely to be effective.

The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme offers screening every two years to all men and women aged 60 to 74.

People in this age group will automatically be sent an invitation letter asking if they would like to participate in the programme. If they wish to, they will then be sent a screening kit so they can do the test at home. It is important that your GP has your correct contact details i.e. name, address etc. as this is how the central hub for the bowel cancer screening service selects who is eligible to be invited into the programme.
