There are many ways you can travel to our hospitals.

Park and ride

Our hospitals have direct and quick links with many of the Cambridgeshire Park and Ride sites.

Non-urgent advice: Temporary reduction in parking at Babraham Park & Ride

There is currently a temporary reduction in the number of spaces available at Babraham Park & Ride whilst work takes place on a renewable energy project.

Additional capacity is available at Trumpington Park & Ride which allows access to our hospitals via the frequent Busway service or shared cycle/pedestrian path.

Bus

Addenbrooke’s Hospital has its own bus station at the Hills Road entrance to the site. The majority of buses pick up and drop off here. There are further stops around the wider biomedical campus.

Due to construction works there may be changes to the bus stops, compared to those shown on the site map.

The services run along the busway serving Longstanton and St Ives Park and Ride sites.

On-site courtesy bus

The patient courtesy bus shuttles around site, with the service now provided using an electric vehicle.

The bus will run Monday to Friday, 08:00- 16:00, following a continuous loop around the site, stopping at the following points:

  • Car Park 1
  • Addenbrooke’s Treatment Centre
  • Royal Papworth Hospital
  • Car Park 2
  • Rosie Hospital, Breast Unit and CDC
  • N and R Wards
  • Rehab Block MRIS lay-by
  • Oncology
  • Main bus stop
  • Main Outpatient’s entrance

From Cambridge Rail Station

By car

The hospitals are well signposted from most parts of Cambridge. If you are driving from outside Cambridge, there is easy access to the campus via Addenbrooke's Road, signed from Junction 11 on the M11.

Car parking for patients and visitors is located in one of our two multi-storey car parks located at car park 1 (opens in a new tab) or car park 2 (opens in a new tab). Each of these car parks operates a pay on foot system where customers make their payment for parking on exiting the car park.

By cycle

The main road routes leading to the hospital, including Hills Road, Long Road, Trumpington Road and Addenbrooke's Road all have dedicated cycles lanes, as well as off-road paths some of their length.

Cambridgeshire County Council provides a downloadable map of cycle routes (opens in a new tab) through and around the city.

Cambridge CycleStreets (opens in a new tab) enables you to plan routes online.

There is a number of cycle parking areas across the campus with public open cycle parking at key entrances.

If you are arriving by train, there is a shared-use path alongside the guided busway.

Walk

Our hospitals are at the southern edge of Cambridge. Walking from the city centre takes around an hour.

If you are arriving by train, the shared-use path alongside the guided busway makes for a pleasant half hour walk.

Babraham Park and Ride is about two kilometres south of the hospital. Many people choose to park their cars here and then walk or catch the Park and Ride bus to the hospital.

Trumpington Park and Ride is under 3 kilometres from the hospitals. Guided bus services are available however some people choose to walk the scenic route to and/or from the Park and Ride.

Discounted parking

The Trust has in place a range of discounted tickets for patients and visitors to ensure a fair and reasonable charge is paid to park on our campus.

Full details on all discounted ticket prices can be found on entry to the car park, at the pay stations and at our customer service desks situated in the car parks.

To qualify for discounted parking, proof of an appointment will be required. Appointment letters, booking cards and car park tickets signed by the clinic or department, will all be accepted as proof. Please note, without proof the car park operators may not approve a discount.

Disabled parking

Blue Badge holders attending the hospital as a patient or visitor will be eligible to receive free parking for the duration of their stay. The offer of free parking will only apply where a valid blue badge is shown as proof of eligibility.

Short-stay disabled car parking spaces

Blue Badge holders can park for free in the on-road disabled car parking spaces (opens in a new tab) for a maximum of four hours. Please ensure you display your time clock and abide by the car parking rules (opens in a new tab).

Long-stay disabled car parking spaces

Blue Badge holders parking for more than four hours should use the long-stay disabled spaces available in car parks 1 and 2, which again permit free parking.

Please allow enough time to park and make your way to your appointment.

Frequent outpatient attenders

Free parking will be provided to all outpatients who attend the hospital for an appointment on a frequent basis. This ticket is valid for attendance of two or more appointments in a single 7-day period. Appointment letters, booking cards and car park tickets signed by the clinic or department, will be accepted as proof of attendance.

Parents of sick children staying overnight

Parents or guardians of a child or young person, under 18 years of age, who are admitted as an inpatient at the hospital staying overnight, will be offered free parking, between the hours of 7:30pm and 8:00am while visiting the child. This will apply to a maximum of two vehicles only.

If you receive benefits

On proof of certain benefits, you may be able to claim back your travel expenses and car parking cost through the Healthcare Travel Cost Scheme (opens in a new tab).

Concession Tickets

To obtain any concession for parking, take your car park entry ticket to the customer service desks, which are located on ground level in both car parks 1 and 2.

If you are claiming a concession, please do so at the time of your visit.

Please note that the pay machines accept both cash and credit card payments.

  • Outpatients, day surgery and emergency patients - £4.10 for any 24 hour period
  • Patients receiving treatment for two or more consecutive days – Free parking for up to seven days
  • Frequent visitors - £22.50 for up to seven days, or £37.50 for up to 14 days
  • Carers - Discounted parking can be given upon production of a carer’s passport, find out more here.

  • If you have a seven or 14 day ticket, pay for the ticket at the pay machine and then keep and use this ticket each time you enter and exit the car park for the designated period.
  • Patient and frequent visitors’ tickets can only be used in the car park of origin.
  • All discounts must be claimed at the time of your visit.
  • Car parking refunds are not offered once the fee has been paid.
