Animating the Archives

The Archives of Addenbrooke’s Hospital is a treasure trove of documents and artefacts telling the story of the hospital and of health and medicine in Cambridge over the past 250 years.

Over the course of 2016, Addenbrooke’s Arts and Addenbrooke’s Archives will be working with local community groups to bring this history to life and to create a permanent museum in the main hospital corridor opposite the main Addenbrooke’s Arts gallery.

Rather than a simple chronology of the hospital, the exhibition will draw on themes from the hospital’s history such as nursing or surgery as well as lots of ways to look behind the scenes of what made medicine possible through the years.

The aim is to create a vibrant, visual, interactive display which will tell people about the ways health and care have changed over the years, providing an informative and distracting centre-piece to the hospital’s history and perhaps pointing the way to its future.

The new museum will be unveiled on Founders’ Day October 13th 2016.
